Intro to Ed Reaume

As an old friend, my desire is to create a living legacy of a remarkable artist, Ed Reaume. Ed's work is pen and ink pointillism, and as far as I know, unique. There are many pen and ink artists, but he is alone in only using dots....there are no lines drawn in his works.

Ed was born in Detroit on January 20, 1945. After his four year tour in the U.S. Air Force ended in 1970 he began his career in pointillism. He felt that "all the great paintings have already been created". He was never satisfied with his paintings, so he chose to try a more challenging medium. He began with a 3X0 technical pen and later switched to a 6X0 pen. For those of you not familiar with technical pens, a line drawn with a 6X0 pen is finer that a human hair. Ed estimates that some of his works contain over 2,000,000 dots, and rarely finished a work in less that six months.

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in late August 2005, Ed and his mother drove to Florida to his brother's house. They had no idea that their home would be covered by 8 feet of water. All of the remaining prints and even Ed's customer list were forever lost. Irrepairable nerve damage in Ed's left arm has prevented him from ever doing his work again. If you have any of his prints, consider yourself lucky.

Ed can be reached at (321) 452-8502. He has been undergoing chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer and is not feeling real "chipper", but loves to hear from friends and customers.

  1. My family owns 4 of Ed's fabulous works that we purchased from him at Destrehen Plantation way back in the late 70's/early 80's. My parents have 2 boats and one girl. I had the girl (Charity?) with the baby carriage, but lost it in the spoils of divorce. Ed's art gives us so much joy and is always displayed in a place of honor.

Keep up the fight, Ed. It is possible to beat the big C. Stay strong, optimistic and surrounded by love. We're pulling for you!

  13. We own seven of Ed's works. We met Ed in the French Quarter of New Orleans. We were able to spend time watching him work. What an amazing artist!
Unfortunately, we need to down size and I'd love to find good homes for our collection. Three of the works are of his Vicrorian girls, professionally framed - Faith & Hope, Charity and Chasity. We also have three unframed prints - Bayou Rest, Memories IV and Oak Alley. All of the works are signed by Ed, some are artists proofs and a couple are prints. We also own Bayou Joe, which is professional framed and we'll be keeping, as it is a little smaller. If anyone is interested in these lovely pieces please contact me.
